Introduction to Porting and Running Applications on AMD GPUs

Tuesday 25th June 2024 14:00 - 15:30

The porting to run on GPUs continues to get easier with improvements in GPU programming languages and tools. In this presentation, we first look at the wide range of AMD GPU architectures. Then we review the many language options for programming AMD GPUs. AMD is a strong proponent of application portability to run on all types of GPUs and CPUs. The languages covered will be HIP, ROCm, OpenMP, and some portability frameworks. We’ll briefly touch on the many optimized libraries that can be used in GPU applications. We’ll also take a look at the rich set of tools now available for AMD GPU programming.

This online session is open to all. It will use the Blackboard Collaborate platform.

Advanced MPI, Online, 27-28 June 2024

Have you ever wondered what happens inside the MPI library when you send a message? Or, whether you can exploit the fact that two processes are running on the same node to optimise communications or save memory? These issues and more will be addressed in the upcoming ARCHER2 course “Advanced MPI” running online on 27-28 June. The course also provides the opportunity to discuss your questions on MPI topics and get advice for implementing and improving the use of MPI in your software from MPI experts.
